Bungie's new science-fiction franchise of video games will begin a little later than expected...
Activision Games and Bungie have today announced the official worldwide release date of their upcoming science-fiction video game Destiny. A Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) and an FPS to boot, Destiny marks the first instalment in a new franchise separate from Halo, and is set to span two generations of consoles.
The projected release window of the title is admittedly not quite as soon as fans had hoped. Originally targeted for a Spring 2014 launch, the online beta will instead be uploaded to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and PC in Summer 2014. What this does mean is that the final product itself has incurred a greater setback still, though for Bungie and Activision, in financial terms, launching when they are should be a financially beneficial strategy compared to the sparse Summer months where they were previously set to ship the entire spectacular experience. If Destiny isn't one of 2014's best games, however, then this writer will happily eat his own top hat.
Destiny will now retail on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC this September 9th, 2014.
