The BBC have today released a new trailer for their upcoming third season of their detective drama Sherlock. Set to return next month, the hit series stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman alongside Louise Brealey, Rupert Greaves and newcomer Amanda Abbington (Freeman's wife, now set to play his character's dearly beloved too!).
This one-minute preview (below) is rather more forthcoming in terms of what to expect from The Empty Hearse next month. Sherlock's plan to reveal his survival to John is evidently going to be one which necessitates some forward-thinking on the former detective's part, with an impending terrorist attack forming the backbone of the episode's action once the aforementioned unveiling has occurred. For now, writer Mark Gatiss is staying coy on whether we'll learn the truth of the Reichenbach Fall in the episode's opening moments or we will be forced to wait until the 'Case of the Week' has been solved come the first instalment's climax.
Sherlock: The Empty Hearse broadcasts on BBC One this New Year's Day, 2014.
