Today's double feature of our Advent Adventure is a definitive collation of all of last night's major video game announcements from the Spike VGX Awards 2013. Predictably enough, the ceremony itself was cringeworthy at best, utterly atrocious at worst, but Spike did land a few thrilling reveals which have transformed 2014 into a far more promising year for the industry.
ICYMI, then, let's dawdle no longer. Here's our round-up of all of the VGX reveals which deserve your immediate attention:
- TELLTALE GAMES ANNOUNCE NEW PROJECTS- Telltale Games took to the stage for a trio of exclusive reveals which all but won them the night. Firstly, The Walking Dead: Season Two will ship on XBLA, PSN and PC this December 17th. But that's not all, oh no- the team are currently developing titles based on two award-winning entertainment franchises, Gearbox's Tales from the Borderlands and HBO's Game of Thrones, both débuting via teaser trailers (below) and set to launch on current- and next-generation console networks in 2014.
- TOMB RAIDER: DEFINITIVE EDITION ANNOUNCED- Next up, Crystal Dynamics announced the release of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on next-generation consoles. Their reveal trailer for the upgraded product would have come as more of a surprise, admittedly, had the title's existence not been leaked weeks earlier! Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition retails for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on January 28th, 2014.
- NEW QUANTUM BREAK, DESTINY, SOUTH PARK GAMEPLAY TRAILERS RELEASED- On top of the various project announcements, Spike unveiled two new gameplay trailers (below) for Remedy Entertainment's Xbox One time-shifting exclusive Quantum Break, Obsidian's comedy-fantasy epic South Park: The Stick of Truth and Bungie's multi-generation intergalactic science-fiction RPG Destiny. The former launches in Spring 2014, South Park on March 7th, 2014 and the latter on September 9th, 2014.
- BROKEN AGE VOICE ACTORS CONFIRMED, NO MAN'S SKY ANNOUNCED- Two indie developers had a few extra news gems to share as the night (mercifully) came to a close. Double Fine Productions' Tim Schafer initially revealed that Elijah Wood and Jack Black are the lead voice actors for their upcoming adventure side-scroller Broken Age, before UK developers Hello Games unveiled the spectacular open-world MMORPG No Man's Sky (the trailer for which is below) to a stunned virtual audience, trending out of nowhere across Twitter yesterday evening. Broken Age ships on iOS, Android and PC consoles in January 2014 and No Man's Sky retails on unspecified platforms in late 2014.
