James Cameron announces the latest Avatar cast member confirmed to return for the much-anticipated sequel...
20th Century Fox and director James Cameron have today announced a 'new' cast member for their upcoming science-fiction action follow-up Avatar 2. That use of inverted commas comes off the back of one single element of the reveal- the cast member in question was an integral part of the original film, meaning that his is a return for the second outing, if an unprecedented one.
Stephen Lang will reprise his role as Colonel Miles Quatrich in the second instalment of the series. Quatrich was Avatar's antagonist, and was seemingly killed in the first movie's final battle. His return, then, comes as something of a surprise, and would be more shocking were it not for the fact that Sigourney Weaver has been confirmed to reprise her role as Dr Grace Augustine in spite of her supposed demise. Unless some kind of elaborate double bluff has been enacted, it appears some kind of elemental force will resurrect lost heroes and villains in the sequel, although Cameron's announcement seems to suggest that Lang's character will not necessarily be the antagonist next time. Both Lang and Weaver will star in Avatar 2, Avatar 3 and Avatar 3, so don't expect to see the back of either Augustine or Quatrich anytime soon!
Avatar 2 glides into cinemas worldwide in December 2016.
