BBC One +1, New iPlayer, BBC Store Announced

The future starts right here- the BBC unveil their plans for broadcasting initiatives in the remainder of 2013 and beyond.
The BBC have this week revealed a number of new broadcasting strategies for their various channels to be installed within the final months of this year and in the future. This week promises to be a major one for the British Broadcasting Corporation itself in terms of revelations, with a cache of missing Doctor Who episodes expected to be confirmed as recovered and ready for retail release tomorrow night.

For now, though, let's recap what we know on the studio's latest strategic developments. Here's our summary of all of the big announcements of new projects that the BBC have in store:

  • 1 + 1 = ...ONE + 1- Firstly, a new BBC channel will join BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three and BBC Four in the near future. The name of said channel? BBC One + 1. As you'd expect, much along the same lines as iTV + 1 and Channel 4 + 1, the new channel will broadcast programmes which have already aired on BBC One one hour later than their original première. BBC One + 1 is expected to launch on UK television sets in Spring 2014.
  • iUPGRADE- The broadcasting company also want the iPlayer experience to become more personal, so that particular branch of digital programmes will be enhanced and upgraded to fulfil that intended purpose. Exact details on how this new version of iPlayer will function are scarce currently, yet we do know that exclusive spin-off videos for shows such as Doctor Who, Eastenders and Strictly Come Dancing will be created in the months ahead. BBC iPlayer will undergo its major upgrade in Spring 2014.
  • STORE THE MEMORIES- Last but not least, the studio announced the creation of a BBC Store. Envisioned as a bold digital project, the Store will let viewers purchase classic and new TV episodes of hit BBC shows, allowing them to keep digital copies just as they would retail copies in a DVD boxset. While as initiatives go, this is hardly going to set the world alight, it should nevertheless broaden the company's diverse range of entertainment in weeks to come. BBC Store will launch in (yes, you guessed it!) Spring 2014.
