Who News: New 50th Programmes, Airdates Announced

Twenty six days to go! As the countdown continues, the BBC unveil new broadcasts and confirm airdates for Doctor Who's 50th celebrations.
The BBC have today announced a series of programmes and broadcast dates for their impending Doctor Who 50th Anniversary celebrations. A variety of fictitious and factual programmes based on the show's history will première in the weeks leading up to The Day of the Doctor's broadcast, so fans won't be able to look anywhere on the BBC schedule without finding their favourite show present in the weeks ahead!

First up, then, let's look at the latest programmes announced to feature in the celebratory month of November, with our round-up of the announced projects below:

  • 12 AGAIN: DOCTOR WHO SPECIAL- In this special edition of the CBBC's hit nostalgia series 12 Again, the stars and fans of Doctor Who unite to celebrate our entry into the sci-fi drama's sixth decade and the ongoing success of the programme. Guests will include Sylvester McCoy, Tommy Knight, Neve McIntosh, Dan Starkey and Louise Jameson. (Broadcast Date TBC, CBBC)
  • BLUE PETER- Two dedicated instalments of Blue Peter will be focused on Doctor Who in the week preceding its landmark anniversary. These episodes will feature the announcement of the winning designs in a competition to create new technological devices for Vastra, Jenny and Strax to utilise in Series Eight. (November 21st & 23rd, CBBC)

There's plenty more than all of this to expect, of course- Mark Gatiss' docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time (a new poster for which can be glimpsed below), BBC Four's broadcast of the show's first episode An Unearthly Child, a trio of BBC Radio 1/BBC Radio 2 recordings and more programmes still to be announced.

Doctor Who returns for its blockbuster 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, on BBC One, in cinemas and across TV networks worldwide on November 23rd.
