It scarcely bears belief that Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary is almost upon us, 2013 having progressed at an alarmingly rapid rate to the extent that we're now just one month away from witnessing The Day of the Doctor. Over at Doctor Who News Page, I've recently posted a number of reviews of new audio dramas based on the show's illusive history which have been released in the past few weeks.
Here's our round-up of URL links to each and every one of the (hopefully) enlightening verdicts on several much-anticipated Doctor Who audio drama CDs:
- DOCTOR WHO: DALEKS AMONG US (4/5)- The final instalment in Big Finish's Seventh Doctor trilogy for 2013, Daleks Among Us reveals the dark secrets of Elizabeth Klein's past and reintroduces Davros and his Dalek armada into the fray, though it's not without a few teething problems. http://reviews.doctorwhonews.net/2013/09/daleks-among-us-220913150008.html
- DOCTOR WHO: 1963- FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MEN (2/5)- Despite dealing with the legacy of the Fab Four themselves, the Beatles, Fanfare is a less-than-stellar debut for the 1963 celebratory 50th trilogy. Better luck with The Space Race and The Assassination Games, Big Finish! http://reviews.doctorwhonews.net/2013/09/fanfare-for-the-common-men-270913090008.html
- DOCTOR WHO: DESTINY OF THE DOCTOR- DEATH'S DEAL (4/5)- This is the penultimate episode in AudioGo's 50th celebration saga Destiny of the Doctor, and what a tale it is. Catherine Tate is on fine form narrating Death's Deal: http://reviews.doctorwhonews.net/2013/10/deaths-door-251013083008.html
- DOCTOR WHO: THE LIGHT AT THE END (4/5)- Now this is the biggie- Big Finish's 50th Anniversary Doctor Who special, no less, and it's quite a listen. The Light at the End features a few of the fundamental shortcomings inherent to multi-Doctor outings, yet that doesn't stop it by far from being a truly worthy celebratory release. Splendid chaps, those are Big Finish are...all of them! http://reviews.doctorwhonews.net/2013/10/light-at-the-end-251013212008.html
Doctor Who returns for its momentous 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, on BBC One, in cinemas and across BBC channels in 75 countries simultaneously on Saturday, November 23rd.
