No Multi-Player For Batman: Arkham City
Rumours were abound last year that Catwoman's similar combat set to Batman's in the upcoming comic-book sequel Arkham City meant that a co-operative or online multiplayer mode was going to be implemented for the game this Autumn, but developer Rocksteady Studios has mercifully debunked those rumours today, reminding gamers that it was the focus on single-player which made 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum (10/10) such a hit and for that reason they want to focus completely on the campaign mode for Arkham City. The sequel is set for release this Autumn on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, taking players away from the linear halls of the famous Asylum (great though they were) into the slums of Gotham as an entire portion of the city is cordoned off for Batman's worst enemies to roam, only for love interest Catwoman to be captured by Two-Face, just one of dozens of fan favourite antagonists opposing the Dark Knight this time, others including the Joker; Mr Freeze; Hugo Strange; Talia Al Ghul and Calendar Man, forcing Bats to stop monitoring Arkham City and plunge head-in to free Catwoman and stop his adversaries from breaking into the populated areas of Gotham. I for one think that Rocksteady's election to not buckle under pressure and provide multi-player is very brave for such a small developer, but that it's a decision that will ultimately pay off in the long run due to there being so many side stories and an epic plot to tackle in the campaign alone (and that's without the returning Challenge mode and Riddler trophies!). Look out for all the latest on Arkham City in the run up to its release this Autumn.
