Michael Rosenbaum RETURNS To Smallville

Apologies if the capital letters above shocked you, but this is news to get excited about: Michael Rosenbaum will return to Smallville for its two-hour finale this May as Lex Luthor (not a clone, as recent episodes have portrayed Lex, but the real thing). Rosenbaum had previously been rumoured to have refused a return to the show having been supposedly killed off by a bomb in Season Eight, and with just three episodes left to shoot of the programme the majority of fans were beginning to regretfully accept that Clark Kent's arch nemesis would not make an appearance in the Tenth Season. Thankfully, Michael broke the news to TVLine this morning, stating that his return is "for the fans who made Smallville the great success it is", noting "their passion, their relentlessness, and even their threats"! Clearly we'll be seeing the Luthor everyone knows and loves to hate in the finale, too, as Rosenbaum said that he's excited "for Lex to become the bad-ass he's destined to be". The show's executive producers, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson said that they "couldn't be more excited", remaining quiet about how or why Lex returns in the flesh and blood but that the Smallville team have "no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent's life". Although he is probably the name everyone has been waiting for, Rosenbaum follows many series returnees back for the show's final season such as John Schneider (Jonathan Kent in Episodes 1, 17 & the finale), Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent in Episode 13), John Glover (Lionel Luthor in Episodes 10, 13, 16 and the finale), Laura Vandervoort (Kara Kent in Episode 3 and 'Finale') and Callum Blue (Zod in one of the final five episodes). I couldn't be happier to hear of Lex's return, though, since the final run of Smallville stories would have felt wasted without Michael Rosenbaum coming back one last time!
