Gears Of War: Exile An On-Rails Shooter?
Epic Games recently trademarked Gears of War: Exile, and that doesn't sound like anything other than a new entry in the series to us, especially as a potential logo for the release was also trademarked. Now, if rumours would have it, it looks likely that Exile is a Kinect version of Gears of War that will mix levels from the main trilogy of Xbox 360-exclusives (culminating this year with Gears of War 3, one of 2011's most anticipated shooters), and that the game will be an on-rails shooter where the character of Marcus Fenix is controlled automatically by the console and players utilise Kinect's motion-sensing capabilities to aim and fire on enemy Locusts. This is all still speculation right now, although it has been reported as true by oft-reliable source Destructoid recently so there may be truth to the rumours that Exile is a motion spin-off, and certainly the reveal would fall in line with Joshua Ortega's claim that Epic Games has a "ten year plan" as to where Gears of War will head after the finale of the trilogy this Autumn. Whether Exile really is a new GoW release still has to be confirmed by Epic, but that Microsoft are allegedly planning a press conference at the end of February to reveal new hardcore Kinect games (thankfully Star Wars, Child of Eden, Forza Motorsport 4 and Steel Batallion aren't seen as nearly enough by the company, so our motion cameras will be getting a lot of use in the second half of 2011) bodes well for the possible announcement!
