Heroes Of Olympus: The Lost Hero Review (3/5)
Rick Riordan has found a winner with his Percy Jackson book franchise, publishing five great novels based around the powerful demigod and his exploits at Camp Half-Blood, getting an impressive film adaptation of the first story and now writing a sequel series set to change things big-time for Percy and co. For a start, now Jason Grace takes the lead along with his friends Leo and Piper, and Percy is left, as the title states, a Lost Hero in more ways than one. The premise of an even bigger threat coming to Olympus than the Titan War that closed the first run sounds exciting at first, but in fact proves the book's downfall as Riordan crams far too much information on the future of the franchise than he does actually tell a compelling story- I don't want to be teased constantly as to future developments if it means I just know I have to wait to find out what it all means! The author is making a risky assumption by thinking that everyone will continue to read on after The Lost Hero, and that the characters aren't nearly as likeable nor memorable as Percy, Annabeth and Grover doesn't help the matter either. Still, a decent story is told here for the most part, and fans will certainly enjoy the countless references to the past, present and future of the Percy Jackson franchise, even if the rest of us are bogged down by them.
