Our coverage of the Nintendo Direct conference blow-out begins...
It's often hard to second-guess Nintendo with their announcements, but the studio certainly packed a surprising punch today with a host of big WiiU and 3DS reveals in their Direct conference.
First up, the studio revealed that a full new The Legend Of Zelda game is in development for release on the WiiU in 2014. Producer Eiji Anouma says that the developers will be "rethinking the conventions of Zelda" such as the dungeon map and the core narrative, so we should be in for something very special come the E3 2013 reveal.
On top of that, there's been confirmed a HD remake of The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker for release on WiiU later this year. The Wind Waker remains a famed highlight of the franchise thanks to its quirky cel-shaded visuals and its breathtaking narrative, and thus fans will no doubt be ecstatic to see these rendered in glorious high-definition in just a few months' time.
Both The Legend Of Zelda WiiU projects will be further revealed at E3 2013, with The Wind Waker HD set for release in Autumn 2013 and Zelda U in 2014.
