20th Century Fox have this week released the final theatrical trailer for their impending fantasy film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Picking up ten years after the events of 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel's narrative chronicles the dying days of humanity and the increasingly hopeless struggle of a group of survivors to hold their own against the now world-dominating legion of primates who have taken control of San Francisco.
Normally, we'd provide you with a few comments on the quality of the trailer itself, but it should virtually go without saying that Fox's latest Dawn preview is a solid teaser for a blockbuster which is guaranteed to be both a critical and a commercial hit (indeed, we'll be astounded if it doesn't earn itself a 4* or 5* rating here at On-Screen). It's with this in mind that we've therefore decided to compile a few mini-reviews of the film which have emerged on Twitter in the twenty-four hours or so that have elapsed since its world premiere in the United States. See for yourselves what critics and fans alike have to say on the quality of the finished product (and under no circumstances should you miss our definitive verdict on Rise's follow-up next month!):
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is too smart to be a summer movie. It's emotional yet visceral, exceptionally engaging and just so damn good.

Brilliant direction, amazing performances & a great script make DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES one of the years best films. Reeves nailed it

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the best movie of the Summer (so far). So smart, next level performance capture performances.
