Lionsgate Entertainment have this week released a viral trailer (below) for their upcoming fantasy film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1. Picking up just moments after the climax of last year's Catching Fire, the first instalment in the two-part franchise finale will again star Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, but will additionally introduce new characters and cast members into the mix such as Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones)'s Cressida and Evan Ross (90210)'s Messalla so as to shake up the series' status quo somewhat (as if the sensational second outing didn't do enough of that back in November 2013!).
Any doubts that Mockingjay - Part 1 will indeed send the Hunger Games saga on a completely different trajectory to what has come before can be firmly cast aside here, not least as the trailer features a last-minute twist which is sure to have those fans who've yet to read the books opening their jaws wider than a mockingjay's wingspan. Around some parts of the interwebs, this tantalising preview is being called a 'teaser trailer', but with no sign of the movie's logo or any studio branding to be found, we'll stick with the 'viral trailer' concept until we hear otherwise from Lionsgate. What's safe to say regardless of how one terms the video is that it's about as compelling and generically subversive a teaser as we're likely to witness over the course of this year, or (perhaps) period.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 sews the seeds of rebellion in cinemas worldwide this November 21st.
