Channel 4 have this released a new promotional clip intended to promote 20th Century Fox's impending fantasy motion picture Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Starring Andy Serkis and Gary Oldman, the sequel to 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes follows its predecessor's protagonist Caesar as he strives to maintain control of his hyper-intelligent primate army whilst fending off attacks from the last surviving remnants of humanity on the outskirts of a now-deserted San Francisco.
The video preview (below) clocks in at around three minutes and does a worthy job of recapping Rise's storyline for those foolish enough to have passed it up this time around (in case you'd forgotten, we gave it a 5* score here at On-Screen and stand by our decision to award it our Film of the Year title for 2011), summarising the use of the ALZ112 and ALZ113 drugs by Gen-Sys to enhance the intelligence of apes such as Caesar (the first member of his increasingly dominant sub-species) and the eventual outbreak of a virus which has all but wiped humanity off the face of the Earth one decade on (which is where Dawn kicks off its narrative). A quick glance at the film's Metacritic page reveals that all three reviewers who've seen it so far have slapped a full 5/5 or 10/10 rating on their published verdict, so at this stage, we'd wager that it's on track to garner critical praise aplenty and to simultaneously reap the commercial benefits of its regularly-promoted ambition (just look at the motion-capture work, for heaven's sake!) at the global box office.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes wages war in UK cinemas nationwide this July 17th (and hits US theatres on July 11th).
