Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate have announced a new guest star set to feature in the central cast ensemble of the next three instalments in their Divergent dystopian-fantasy film franchise. Titled Insurgent, The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 1 and The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 2, the upcoming trio of blockbusters will continue to tell the tale of protagonist Beatrice Prior's quest to discover the truth about her identity and the ruined, categorised world which she inhabits.
For all its spunk and (restrained) ingenuity (the original film won itself a decent 3* rating here), Divergent came up severely lacking in terms of A-list Hollywood actors, with Torchwood: Miracle Day's Mekhi Phifer and Titanic's Kate Winslet representing the only major performers to have attached themselves to the project. Thankfully, it seems that the tide is turning in the series' favour for the foreseeable future, since Naomi Watts has just been attached to all three of its remaining cinematic yarns. Watts' screen career spans from the 1980s right up to today, with recent big-screen appearances from the actor including J. Edgar (2011) and The Impossible (2012), so she should turn out to be nothing less than a fine fit for an up-and-coming saga of motion pictures such as this one.
Insurgent launches a rebellion in cinemas worldwide on March 20th, 2015, and The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 1 and The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 2 will bring the franchise to its epic conclusion on March 18th, 2016 and March 24th, 2017 respectively.
