The BBC have this week released the teaser trailer (below) for the upcoming first season of their military drama Our Girl. Starring Lacey Turner as its eponymous protagonist, the full run of five 90-minute instalments follows a one-off standalone episode which aired to mass critical acclaim back in March 2013.
Considering that the film in question managed to gain a final average rating of 6.31 million viewers (which, to be clear, is nothing to be gawked at: only the likes of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Strictly Come Dancing, Mrs Brown's Boys and the soaps go much higher than that figure these days), it should come as no great shock to us to see the series back for more, yet the film worked so efficiently as an isolated entity that we can't help but wonder whether the Beeb would have been best of leaving it as such. Even so, we're intrigued to see what Game of Thrones' own Iwan Rheon (better known to fans as Theon's psychotic torturer Ramsay Snow) brings to his latest role here, plus any chance to spend more time in the 'company' of one of Turner's most convincing characters yet is more than welcome at the On-Screen offices.
Our Girl returns to BBC One for a new series of international conflict this Summer.
