Deadpool Gets A Director

Tim Miller, a visual effects artist who has previously worked on the X-Men franchise, is reported to be directing the upcoming Deadpool film, starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular masked anti-hero. Earlier this week, Deadline linked Miller to the project, a spin-off/reboot from 2009 flop X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie will be produced by Lauren Shuler-Donner and distributed by 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios, erasing the plot of Origins whereby Deadpool was a scarred combination of thousands of mutants who could not talk (kinda defeats the object of the comic hero's oft used alias 'The Merc With A Mouth') and instead crafting a new origins story for the character. Bear in mind, however, that it could be some time until we see the flick hit cinemas, with X-Men: First Class still to come this year, a sequel already being hinted at to film soon after if the first one is a box office success and The Wolverine, another spin-off following on from Origins, taking precedence over this despite problems finding a director. X-Men: First Class is set for release on the 27th of May, The Wolverine in 2013 and Deadpool in 2014.
