Is It A Bird, Is It A Plane...Will It Be Superman?
Absolutely everything is riding on Finale, the two-hour conclusion to Smallville, to provide a fulfilling dénouement to ten years' worth of Clark Kent striving to achieve his destiny with the help of his parents, Chloe and wife-to-be Lois Lane. However, up until now the show's producers have been unwilling to say whether the episode, set to air on May 15th, will feature the future Superman donning his red and blue costume, cape included, and whether he will soar up, up and away before or after he goes head-to-head with Darkseid and Lex Luthor. Thank goodness for TVGuide.com, then- speaking to actor Tom Welling on set in the final days of filming, journalist Rich Sands discovered that crucial to the decision as to how Finale would end was that "This show has always been about Clark Kent- it hasn't been about Superman, and it was very important at the end that we make sure we wrap up the Clark Kent story." If that has already got you quaking in your kryptonite-adorned boots, then don't worry because in the same set of interviews exec Kelly Souders did say we should "keep watching through the whole two hours [as] there is a very special moment that we love, and everyone who is looking for that moment won't be disappointed." Sounds to me like Welling's Clark could be taking flight in his flashy new suit at some point, then! Allison Mack also commented on the way her character Chloe Sullivan's story will be resolved in Finale: "She ends in a very healthy and levelheaded way. I think that the writers have respected my character for such a long time, and she goes out with the same affection she came in with". Smallville returns to US channel The CW on April 15th, and Finale airs May 15th.
