Gatiss On Sherlock, Who

Speaking at the Kapow! comic convention, Brit writer Mark Gatiss has revealed new details on the second series of Sherlock and his upcoming episode of Doctor Who. On what's coming up for Arthur Conan Doyle's hero this year, the acclaimed writer of comedy The League Of Gentlemen said that "the natural thing to do after a successful first run is to adapt three famous Sherlock Holmes stories, being a version of A Scandal In Bohemia [written by Steven Moffat, the original text involved Irene Adler, last played by Rachel McAdams in the 2009 Robert Downey Jr. film], a version of The Hound Of The Baskervilles [written by Mark, involving a family curse] and a version of The Final Problem [written by Steve Thompson, this tale was the one that saw Sherlock and Moriarty fall to their deaths in their final confrontation, although given the popularity of the show don't expect that outcome here]. There's the question of how to go out on a cliffhanger and then there's the thematic things of the three stories and what Sherlock and Watson's relationship is a little further on." Gatiss also discussed his new Doctor Who story; currently titled What Little Boys Are Made Of: "It's my first modern one [the writer previously scribed The Unquiet Dead, The Idiot's Lantern and Victory Of The Daleks], set in a tower block, essentially about a little boy with kind of OCD whose parents are despairing of him because he's frightened of everything- and the Doctor turns up and tells him he's right...!" Doctor Who returns on April 23rd for seven episodes, then returns in September for the final six stories- one of which is Mark's- and Sherlock returns for three new adventures this Autumn.
