Mass Effect Anime Revealed For 2012
After months of next-to-no information whatsoever regarding the Mass Effect universe, BioWare has done a 2 for 1 deal this week, revealing the first information on upcoming game Mass Effect 3 and now announcing a spin-off film to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in Summer 2012. Shot in anime, a Japanese style of animation used on hit releases like Spirited Away (probably the best example, well worth a watch if you can leave your hopes of realism aside), the tie-in will feature a brand new story likely taking place before the original sci-fi shooter's plot. Casey Hudson, executive producer for the franchise, will work as the executive producer for the feature film, and the animation will come from FUNimation and T.O Entertainment. "Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media," Hudson said "and extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us. Partnering with FUNimation ensures we will bring this rich universe to life with the same attention to detail that the Mass Effect games are known for." Mass Effect 3 is released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Winter, while the movie should be out in Summer 2012.
