Aliens: Colonial Marines Delayed, New Trailer Released
I've said it before, I'll say it again- entertainment companies everywhere seemed to have waited until the festive mood of the Christmas break passed, only to then spring on us a handful of delays for anticipated 2012 releases this month. XCOM, Hansel & Gretel: Witch-Hunters, Jack The Giant Killer, Max Payne 3, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Inversion have all fallen prey to this worrying epidemic in weeks gone by, and now we can add another big video game to the list. SEGA and Gearbox announced today that Aliens: Colonial Marines will no longer retail this Spring. In a statement released via GameInformer, the publishers and developers had this to say on the strategic retreat of one of Q1 2012's most eagerly awaited releases: "Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention, and those don't necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line. While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don't want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blueprint. We prefer to have the creative disccovery shape that blueprint because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritising this goal over the previously targeted date." The cynical among us (myself included) might assume this delay is simply a chance for SEGA to promote the game at this year's E3 expo and to port it over to the WiiU as promise for the console's release near the end of 2012, but if Gearbox truly are putting off the game's release until everything's just right with this spiritual Aliens sequel, then I commend them for their bravery. Yep, it takes some guts to release a licensed game in the packed Autumn of Gaming in any year...then again, try telling that to Batman: Arkham City. Aliens: Colonial Marines will ship this Autumn.
