What with 2012 having fully commenced its round of telly entertainment recently, I thought it'd be worth having a look at some of the best TV shows on their way in the first quarter of the year (January-March). Here are the five programmes I'm most looking forward to seeing on the small screen...
5. HOUSE- This reportedly final season of Hugh Laurie's great medical drama hasn't been on as fine form as usual, but nevertheless I can't wait to see what mysteries and revelations Dr Gregory's final patients hold for him and what consequences the many bad choices in his life will have at the end of the road!
4. WE'LL TAKE MANHATTAN- Doctor Who's Karen Gillan has been busy filming this intense biopic of model Jean Shrimpton, and while we haven't seen much footage of the drama yet, Gillan has a great track record in her portrayals so far, so I've got no doubt this'll be another winner.
3. GLEE- More comedy antics with the world's most unlucky rock choir, as New Directions head to Regionals, Santanna takes a turn for the worst and the cast pay tribute to Mr Michael Jackson...
2. BIRDSONG- BBC1 are adapting one of my favourite novels ever, Birdsong, a beautiful World War drama by Sebastian Faulks. The channel has already scored two home runs with Sherlock and Public Enemies this month- can they do it again?
1. SHERLOCK- But of course, it's got to be the epic finale to perhaps the most consistently amazing drama seasons of all time that hits the top of the list: Sherlock: The Reichenbach Fall will conclude the Holmes vs. Moriarty storyline with the biggest of bangs next week, and I for one cannot bear waiting an entire week to see just how Steve Thompson, crafter of last season's best episode The Great Game, handles the infamous Final Problem. Expect the most jaw-dropping and heart-stopping cliffhanger of this year, and worse still, don't expect it to be resolved until late 2013 at the very earliest!
