Trouble At THQ?

File:THQ logo 2011.svgBear in mind that the majority of this article is based on rumours and speculation, but more than usual (I won't generally post about unconfirmed matters), these seem to have some bearing or truth behind them. If games journalists are to be believed, then developer and publisher THQ may have run in to some financial troubles that may well put their future status into question. Here's what the company themselves had to say when they were accused of canning their 2014 video games line-up prior to shutting down that year, earlier this week:
"THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platforms and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the biggest talents in the industry."
Perhaps a bit too much emphasis is placed there on the 'high-quality' description, although I guess when you're shipping titles like WWE and Homefront in amongst brilliant entries like Saint's Row: The Third, it's better to assure us there's still good times ahead. For now, everything's up in the air- THQ will be releasing Metro: Last Light, UFC Undisputed 3, Darksiders 2 and South Park: The Game later in 2012.
