British Film Week To Be Implemented?

Over at the Houses of Parliament, Lord Smith has been proposing quite a radical new annual event which could be implemented from as early as this year- a British Film Week! In the midst of what Smith called a "golden period" for British films- and what with Attack the Block, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Inbetweeners Movie and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy having been produced here in 2011, I'm inclined to agree- he elected to create a week where "audiences across the UK [could] access the full spectrum of British film, giving them a full insight into its breadth, depth, and originality", the core goal of the initative being to "re-establish the brand of the British film." If David Cameron and the other representatives of our government would be prepared to stand behind the initative and back it as a fully-blown annual event which could continually evolve and develop, then I for one would love to see an emphasis be placed on the wide variety of home-grown UK movies we've had in the past, especially if it could hold any possibility of broadening worldwide appreciation of our strong positioning within the film industry. Keep checking back here at the blog for updates on the initiative's progress in Parliament, and when we might see the British Film Week commence.
