Good things come to the patient- will the third Kinect Sports entry be a system seller?
Microsoft Game Studios have today announced the UK and US release dates for their upcoming motion-control video game Kinect Sports Rivals. The Xbox-exclusive sports franchise was established with Kinect Sports in 2010 and continued with Kinect Sports: Season Two in 2011, but its third instalment will mark the series' first outing on Xbox One, utilising the next-generation console's upgraded Kinect sensor for a variety of mini-game tournaments.
If nothing else, Rivals should come as a relief to fans of the One who've been looking for more reasons to use their dust-gathering Kinect camera beyond launch titles such as Fighter Within and Just Dance 2014. Judging by the uninspired (if addictive) gameplay its Sports predecessors, though, it's difficult to expect a game-changing (no pun intended) revolution from the franchise this time around. Worse still, 2014 is looking rather sparse for Kinect-exclusive products, so unless the inevitable Just Dance 2015 is up your street, prepare for the supposedly groundbreaking hardware component to gather dust once more as the year progresses!
Kinect Sports Rivals will launch exclusively on Xbox One this April 8th in the United States and April 11th in the UK.
