Long-term readers of On-Screen may well recall that from time to time, the terrain of superhero film news has become so crowded that a round-up feature, 'Marvel News', has been necessary for us to provide you with the most comprehensive and immediate coverage of everything that's going on in the land of super-powered fiction.
This week has been one such example of a colossally busy period for this particular realm of the film industry, and with that in mind, we're resurrecting 'Marvel News' to reveal those news tidbits which you may have missed in the past six days. Without further ado, then, here's our unmissable round-up of all the latest news regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the X-Men franchise and beyond:
- DAYS OF FUTURE PICS- Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past is nearing ever closer to its Summer of Film launch, and to further gear up for its release, the studio are gradually revealing a series of new promotional images featuring characters from the rather giant ensemble movie. Below this list, you'll be able to see for yourselves a group of pics which show off both Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen's Magneto, as well as James McAvoy's Charles Xavier. Expect to see more previews along these lines in days to come, and potentially a new trailer for the film sometime next week...X-Men: Days of Future Past time travels into cinemas worldwide on May 22nd.
- THE WINTER TEASER- As if the prospect of witnessing Captain America: The Winter Soldier in a month's time wasn't already exciting enough, executive producer Kevin Feige has teased that the modern-day sequel will have one or two major connections and ramifications for next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron. "We wanted to change the dynamic of the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] with this film," says Feige in the new issue of Total Film, "We wanted Cap and really the entire cinematic universe to be very different at the end of Winter Soldier than it is at the beginning. Therefore when we meet the Avengers at the top of Age of Ultron, it's a very different landscape than we left them with at the end of the first [Avengers] film." Captain America: The Winter Soldier ricochets into UK auditoriums across the nation on March 26th.
- "YOU AND I REMEMBER MOZAMBIQUE VERY DIFFERENTLY"- Continuing his hints at the Avengers franchise's future in Total Film's exclusive on-set feature, Feige has revealed that Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow)'s role in Age of Ultron is "very big", with new elements of "her past and [...] where she came from and how she became in [Avengers Assemble]" set to come into play too. Better yet, a Black Widow solo film may even be in the works to form one of the Phase Four storylines, as evidenced by Feige's comments that "some development work" is underway at Marvel Studios on the potential project. Avengers: Age of Ultron assembles in cinemas everywhere on May 1st, 2015.
- GUARDIANS OF THE...TRAILER RELEASE DATE- Last but by no means least, rumour has it that a Guardians of the Galaxy teaser trailer will hit the web early next week. If leaked reports from Yahoo are to be believed, then expect to see the Guardians preview launch online come Tuesday February 18th.
For all the latest news, previews and reviews of upcoming Marvel films and other related products, keep it On-Screen in the days ahead!
