The Stateside version of the iTV talent show will take a "rest" as Simon Cowell returns to The X Factor UK!
Fox have today announced that The X Factor USA will not return for a fourth season in 2014. The news follows swiftly after former judge Simon Cowell's revelation that he will resume his role as one of the central judges on the UK edition of the programme in its eleventh run later this year.
The US studio's Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly referred to the series' current status as being akin to a "rest", but before fans infer that word as suggesting that the show will return overseas in the near-future, bear in mind that similar terminology was used to describe Doctor Who's axe in 1989. In other words, short of The X Factor USA receiving a similar revival in sixteen years' time just as Who did come 2005, this looks to be the end of the line, with Reilly summarising the motivation behind Fox's cancellation as being due to the fact that "there is no X Factor USA without Simon Cowell". In all honesty, based on the evidence presented last year by the UK series' diminishing ratings sans Cowell, it's difficult to reject that notion of Simo-centrism, even if accepting it does instigate the climax of a show which has amassed remarkable popularity in its ported incarnation.
The X Factor returns to iTV1 for an eleventh series this Summer.
