Our brief tribute to a beloved classic Doctor Who director who passed away earlier today.
We are deeply saddened to report the tragic passing of Christopher Barry. The acclaimed British director left us today after a fall in his hometown of Oxfordshire, where he had lived since his retirement from working in the television and film industry.
Christopher was most frequently recognised for his contribution to the classic era of Doctor Who, in particular his direction of iconic stories including The Daleks, The Power of the Daleks and Robot. After his work on the BBC science-fiction drama, he went on to direct productions including All Creatures Great and Small and The Tripods, and in doing so ensured that he would have a legacy among his fans long after his death.
My thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to Christopher's friends and family in this inexpressibly difficult period of mourning and celebration of the times that they spent in the much-praised thespian's company. As a final tribute to his memory, I've included a video of the Barry-directed cliffhanger which brought his first Doctor Who episode, The Dead Planet (The Daleks Episode 1), to a close and captured the imagination of countless generations to come.
Rest In Peace, Christopher.
