A fiancée, a Captain and an old foe are cast in the new detective drama!
Fox have today announced a trio of new castings for their upcoming detective drama Gotham. Situated in the DC comic-book universe and set before Bruce Wayne's ascension into the role of the Caped Crusader, the show stars Ben McKenzie as a young Captain James Gordon in his first encounters on the GCPD with villains destined to join the ranks of Gotham's Most Wanted.
First up on the agenda is Sean Pertwee, who will portray the character of Alfred Pennyworth. The ever-faithful butler of Wayne (presented here in his teenage years), Alfred has been played by actors including Alan Napier, Michael Gough and Michael Caine in the past, but at the age of 39, Pertwee will likely mark the youngest thespian ever to don his formal attire in a screen adaptation of the Batman graphic novel franchise. Moreover, Erin Richards (Being Human USA) will take on the mantle of Barbara Kean (not to be confused with Barbara Gordon, the eventual daughter of Jim and Barb Kean in the comics), while Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead) will play none other than Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. the Penguin himself. Fox confirmed earlier this year that their pilot production strategy has ceased, all-but-guaranteeing that Gotham will receive at least one full season, so these new cast appointments are just the beginning of a wealth of production announcements to come...
