Another piece of the Arrow spin-off's casting puzzle fits into place.
The CW have today announced a new guest star for the upcoming pilot episode of their superhero drama Flash. A spin-off of the channel's hit DC series Arrow, the show will focus more on the science-fiction elements of its comic-book inspiration, picking up after the events of its sister programme's mid-season finale Three Ghosts with its protagonist Barry Allen comatose thanks to an accident involving a Particle Accelerator in Central City.
Once the Flash's human alter-ego presumably awakens from his slumber in the untitled pilot, he'll reunite with Harrison Wells, a professor who created the doomed Accelerator and who will be played by Tom Cavanagh. The Canadian actor is best known for his work on the online Nerdist podcast Mike and Tom Eat Snacks, and has had a number of supporting roles in films including Yogi Bear and Breakfast with Scot, but as you can probably tell from his rather low-key filmography, this could well be Cavanagh's big break, at least in the TV industry. If the ongoing success of CW stars such as Erica Durance and Stephen Amell is anything to go by, he's certainly going to have a career full of highlights ahead of him thanks to his appointment here!
Flash will début with its pilot episode (and with any luck a full season of twenty-two instalments) alongside the third season of Arrow this Autumn on The CW.
