"I Am Sherlocked." Sue Vertue confirms an official Sherlock convention for 2014...
BBC Worldwide and Massive Entertainment have today announced the development of an official Sherlock convention to be held later this year. Revealed by producer Sue Vertue today, the event will span two nations, the UK and the USA, and is set to feature appearances from integral members of the hit drama's cast and crew.
There's no hiding the fact that the convention (which holds the rather fitting title of Sherlocked) will be an essential marketing device for the Beeb to tide fans over in what will probably be another substantial wait until a new season of Sherlock arrives. With Doctor Who Season Eight currently in production and scheduled to continue filming until the late days of the Summer, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will not be able to return to 221B Baker Street until Autumn 2014 at the very earliest, which would indicate a Summer 2015 première window if we were being extremely optimistic. Nevertheless, Vertue and her husband Steven Moffat have stressed that they're still hard at work organising production dates so as to avoid another two-year wait between Seasons Three and Four, offering hope that our withdrawal symptoms will not cause us quite as much anxiety this time around (although His Last Vow's underwhelmingly tension-wanting managed to do that fine for the most part).
With the sudden nature of this announcement, it's little surprise to see that details of the cast and crew members are scarce right now, but we're sure to hear more in the coming weeks. Commenting on the news at the unofficial fan site Sherlockology, producer Vertue revealed the following information: "We're very excited to be announcing our first official Sherlock convention for later in the year, aptly named Sherlocked. Massive Events have been pestering me for ages to get a date for this in the schedule but we wanted to make sure that we had the time and energy to make it a great, high-quality, fun event, and now we have! Watch this space."
Sherlocked will be held over a three-day period this Summer.
