Activision and Hasbro Gaming have today announced the development of Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark for release later this year. The latest video game based on the beloved franchise of semi-vehicular action figures will be a tie-in to Michael Bay's Summer of Film blockbuster Age of Extinction, and will feature a range of the multi-functioning 'bots already confirmed to star in the film saga's latest instalment such as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and of course the Dinobots.
If Dark Spark was only an adaptation of Age's narrative, then we'd hold out minimal hope for its potential. What should distinguish it from the mediocrity of this oft-loathed genre is its teaser trailer (below)'s hints that Bay's Transformers narrative universe will cross-over with that which we've seen in High Moon Studios' licensed titles War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron. On-Screen awarded the latter a mighty 9/10 score in 2012, and if the preview's various references to that stunning licensed project are indeed intended to foreshadow a storyline which combines both sectors of the franchise, our expectations will be raised considerably. It's been merely hours since the product was announced at the New York Toy Fair, but we'll keep you posted on all of the major developments as they come...
Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will mobilize on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Nintendo WiiU, Nintendo 3DS and PC this Summer.
