Jonah Hex Review (1.5/5)
Not many films stoop as low as Jonah Hex does: if there was ever a phrase that meant the opposite of the 'sum of its parts', this review would be adorned with that adjective. It's an adaptation of a little known DC comic taking place in the Old West and following a cowboy who can speak to the dead. Typically enough, the plot is fantastical fanfare through and through- from resurrected corpses to mystical ammunition, there's no element of the flick that does not reek of the genre. To his credit, Josh Brolin does a decent job as Hex, but for most he'll just come off as too gruff even for a role as gritty as the anti-hero. Megan Fox and John Malkovich also get some screen time, however not nearly as much as was advertised in the trailer campaign, making the whole promotional endeavour seem pointless. Even the scene transitions here make no sense- sometimes it will feel as if the protagonists were in the middle of a intense battle, only to appear unscathed with the enemies they were fighting seconds ago gone as if they were never there. It's hard to express just how little Jonah Hex gets right, but just know that it's by far the worst superhero film in years, and one of 2010's worst too.
