Tomb Raider Film Reboot Announced
After years of uncertainty, a reboot of the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider film franchise has been announced to enter pre-production next year, for release in the Summer of 2013. The movie rights have been passed to GK Films, who have previously produced the likes of The Aviator, Edge of Darkness and The Tourist, so clearly know what they're doing in the world of big screen blockbusters. Speaking on their new instalment in the series based around the video gaming icon, producer Graham King said "We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the Tomb Raider phenomenon." Angelina Jolie previously portrayed the titular adventurer in two stories, the latter of which was named The Cradle of Life and released at the box office in 2003, however Jolie is not expected to play Lara this time around. Tomb Raider will enter pre-production in 2012 and is planned for release the next year. As much as it seems strange to think two years ahead, the reboot will certainly be headed into one heck of a crowded twelve months, starring major sequels such as Star Wars: Attack of the Clones 3-D; Iron Man 3 and Avatar 2 (no pressure, then!)
