Icon Film Distribution have today released a teaser trailer for their upcoming animated film Postman Pat: The Movie. A shot across the bows of sorts at this year's other CGI animation blockbuster contenders, The LEGO Movie and How To Train Your Dragon 2 included, the movie will star Episodes' Stephen Mangan, Broadchurch's David Tennant, Harry Potter's Rupert Grint, The Iron Lady's Jim Broadbent and Star Trek's Greg Ellis.
In spite of its competitors seemingly revelling in their cross-generational appeal, this first cinematic outing for England's most reliable postman looks to firmly understand its target audience and as such aims to wholly satisfy younger viewers. The infamous Smurfs motion pictures have taken much the same tact with varying levels of success critically (and frankly, that's an immense understatement), but commercially their achievements have been sound. Even if having one of the judges of its fictitious talent show You're The One be named "Simon Cowbell" sets the comic bar pretty low on the basis of this début trail (below), then, Icon and 20th Century Fox (the production's US distributor) will surely be content so long as tickets are sold and the series gains popularity in the aftermath of its film spin-off's release.
Postman Pan: The Movie makes its first deliveries in cinemas worldwide on May 23rd.
