Sherlock Series Four Character Storylines Teased

"Did you miss me?" will be just the first of many questions on fans' lips in two years' time!
Lead actress Amanda Abbington has today hinted at details of her character Mary Morstan's development in the upcoming fourth season of the BBC's detective drama Sherlock. The show's third season aired last month and comprised of three 90-minute episodes, The Empty Hearse, The Sign of Three and His Last Vow, each of which starred Abbington as John Watson's fiancée and soon-to-be wife Mary Morstan.

That Abbington can't reveal many specifics at this point is no surprise, but to her credit, she has still managed to hint at one or two details which could prove influential in the next adventures of the Great Detective and his accomplices. Here's our round-up of everything that Martin Freeman's wife had to say on Season Four:
  • ON JOHN AND MARY'S RELATIONSHIP- "[They will] probably be reckless parents. They're both quite psychopathic, but I think an assassin and an army doctor who loves trouble, I mean, that kid has got nothing to worry about. [It'll be] screwed up mentally, of course, but if there's any bullying on the playground, we're covered."
  • ON SEASON FOUR'S STORYLINES- "I am coming back [as Mary, who in Arthur Conan Doyle's short stories died in-between The Boscombe Valley Mystery and The Adventure of the Norwood Builder], [but I don't know] in what capacity. We don't know storylines yet. Well, we do know some things but aren't allowed to say. What we do know is amazing!"
Sherlock will return to BBC One in 2015 (or 2016- no confirmation from co-creators Steven Moffat or Steven Moffat on the transmission window yet!).
