Avatar 2 Three Years Away, Avatar 3 Five
The sequel to hit science-fiction flick Avatar will release in Christmas 2014, and the third film at Christmas the next year, James Cameron has revealed. Speaking to the press today, the writer, director and executive producer of the original said that "the plan is [for Avatar 2 and 3 to release] Christmas '14 and '15", having "already started writing both films". In addition, Cameron noted that "if [characters] survived Avatar, then [they will] appear in Avatar 2 and 3". That's Sigourney Weaver's Grace Augustine and Laz Alsonso's Tsu'Tey out then...or is it? Would the series' head writer really sacrifice Weaver, famous for her roles in the Alien franchise and appearing in next month's Pegg/Frost sci-fi comedy Paul, as she was one of the biggest names to grace the cast of Avatar? We think not, so expect more than a few flashbacks in one or both sequels unless 20th Century Fox wants to really challenge itself in terms of how famous their leads are. Bit of a wait, then, until Avatar 2 (three and a half years at the least, to be precise) and more so till Avatar 3 (in case you were wondering, no less than FIVE years), but knowing James Cameron the animation and impressive 3-D tech will continue to bring in huge audiences from 2014 onwards!
