The Sounds Of Star Wars Review (4.5/5)
There's nothing to suggest that this release is an unnecessary milking of the Star Wars cash cow- the sci-fi saga is rife with unique sound effects for spaceships, aliens and planets that pretty much no one knows the creation process for. And yes, The Sounds of Star Wars does a great job of informing fans how some of the most iconic moments of each film (you'll be shocked to find there were even some in the forgettable prequels) were made. Where the book perhaps 'stumbles' is through a fault long set in stone over the last decade- while you'll love every moment of the original trilogy half of the book, the sections covering Episodes I-III only highlight just how much of a mistake writer George Lucas made with the latest set of films in keeping with the tone of the originals; the battle droids, the Pod Racers and Clone Troopers all jar with the FX of the 1970/80s, to the point that you'll probably find yourself skipping some of the more drawn-out sequences in favour of the 'best moments' from those sour let-downs. Never mind that, though, as the speaker and incredible isolation of the effects from the sound-track make The Sounds of Star Wars well worth £30, and a package which will go down as one of the saga's best.
