Glee: Britney/Brittany Review (2.5/5)

Usually I defend Glee to those who claim it's a show of which you can only have a love-hate relationship, but that Episode 2 of this season is such a dismal successor to last week's sensational opener leaves the show more than vulnerable to those sorts of allegations. Britney/Britanny tries it on with the same star-orientated format as last year's The Power of Madonna, but gets so mixed up in all its anaesthetic delusions and cameos from the titular pop star that in doing so it fails to provide a cohesive plot that can appeal to any fan. For starters, it primarily focuses on a character who, let'd not beat around the bush, is one of the strangest and most dislikeable members of the Glee club so far (even having been part of the cast since the show's inception), which is never a good move- especially if you're trying to convince viewers the character has a very different side, while evidently Britanny doesn't. More annoying still were the cameos by Spears herself, ironically enough, as we didn't see enough of the iconic episode namesake to make her inclusion in the episode feel worthwhile. Admittedly there were a few scenes which got some laughs from this reviewer ("Leave Britney alone!" and Sue Sylvester being tramped on amidst a horde of sex-fuelled students were particular highlights), but ultimately Britney/Britanny was a major step down from last week's excellent series première, and much more irritatingly a botched sequel to the previous star-focused episode.
