Goldeneye 007 Impressions

James Bond feels well and truly back in this Wii shooter, taking on Russians and evil organisations galore in an action-packed re-imagining of the classic film (and tie-in game, which went down as one of the first great FPS titles) starring Pierce Brosnan, now with current 007 Daniel Craig in the lead role. Unlike Call of Duty and Brothers in Arms for the Nintendo Wii, the motion-controlled aiming reticule here feels smoother and quite genuinely like you're actually a secret agent wielding his P99 pistol with silencer (an experience I don't think can quite be tapped into by Kinect, it's more fun to have the weapon in your hands- metaphorically, of course). Craig's more violent take on Ian Fleming's super spy remains intact here as you're forced to either stealthily knock out every guard in a room or instead murder them brutally to make your escape. Everything from the campaign to the multi-player maps feels highly polished for a third-party Wii title, and though the visuals aren't quite up to the standard of next-generation shooters they have a neat retro feel to them reminiscent of the original Nintendo 64 version (but nowhere near as bland). For my full review of Goldeneye 007 for Wii, check back next week! Over and out for now, 00 Agents...
