No Halo For 2011
Heard all the rumours of a Halo: Combat Evolved remake or even the fourth instalment in the saga set for release in 2011? They're false, according to the Official Xbox Magazine in their interview with the head of new developer 343 Industries. When asked whether there would be another Halo game out in 2011, O'Connor responded that "there'll certainly be more Halo fiction entering the universe [this year], but we've got no new games to announce". It's a pretty grim statement for fans, having had Halo titles released on an annual basis since 2007- Halo 3, Wars, ODST and Reach have ensured that we've never had to wait more than a year to see futuristic Spartan soldiers in battle, althought O'Connor does reassure us that "contemporary novels [set after Halo 3] by Karen Traviss" will release in the second half of 2011 to expand the series mythology further. At first it seemed that the head of 343 Industries was simply saying that side-stories like ODST and Reach wouldn't feature as games this year, but on the topic of whether Master Chief would leave the stasis pod he was left trapped in as it floated towards an alien planet at Halo 3's climax O'Connor predicted the Chief would be "chilling- literally.", strongly implying the series' hero won't be back before 2012. Bungie had a long history of revealing their new Halo games at E3 and releasing them a year later, and with no such announcement present at E3 2010, perhaps the 2011 show will see 343 Industries' first entry in the science-fiction shooter genre premièred...?
