Who scored the big awards over in the States?
On the same night as British film fans discovered which movies had won the various BAFTA awards, music lovers over in America were about to find out just which songs and artists had secured prestigous Grammies awards at the 54th Annual Award Ceremony. I hope you'll agree the final list is full of well-deserved winners, showcasing the best of 2011's musical offerings...and well done to Adele on her return with Rolling In The Deep, met with nothing other than a standing ovation!
RECORD OF THE YEAR: Adele- Rolling In The Deep (I wholeheartedly agree with this and the 'Album of the Year' awards, as Adele was the artist I named my favourite in 2011's musical lists!)
ALBUM OF THE YEAR: Adele- 21
BEST NEW ARTIST: Bon Iver (I haven't heard much of Iver's work, so this may be the encouragement you and I need to pick up some of his records and give 'em a go...)
BEST POP SOLO PERFORMANCE: Adele- Someone Like You (Another completely justifiable win for one of 2011's greatest artists.)
BEST POP DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE: Tony Bennett/Amy Winehouse- Body & Soul (I can't help but feel Coldplay's Paradise might have only lost out on this award due to the tragedy of Winehouse's passing feeling as if the Grammys needed to recognise it, but nevertheless, this is a fitting tribute to a lost pop legend.)
BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM: Adele- 21
BEST DANCE RECORDING: Skrillex- Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites (To be honest, most dance music doesn't really grip me unless it has vocal backing, yet I can at least see the appeal of this one to fans of the genre.)
BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE: Foo Fighters- Walk (I'm so glad to see Walk take this award, because it never seemed to get nearly as much recognition on UK radio stations as it really deserved- what a rock piece!)
BEST HARD ROCK PERFORMANCE: Foo Fighters- White Limo
BEST ROCK SONG: Foo Fighters- Walk
BEST ROCK ALBUM: Foo Fighters- Wasting Light (In case you didn't know, Walk and White Limo both debuted via this album, meaning the package as a whole fared very well at the Grammys.)
The next few I don't have so much jurisidiction on, as they're not genres I'm particularly acquainted with, but nevertheless here they are...
BEST R&B SONG: Cee Lo Green & Jack Splash- Fool For You
BEST R&B ALBUM: Chris Brown- F.A.M.E
BEST RAP SONG: Kanye West- All Of The Lights
BEST RAP ALBUM: Kanye West- My Dark Twisted Fantasy
BEST COUNTRY SONG: Taylor Swift- Mean
BEST COUNTRY ALBUM: Lady Antebellum- Own The Night
