See the biggest sporting event of the year in a whole new dimension...
As a testament to the fad gripping television and film that never seems to end, it has been confirmed this week that the London 2012 Olympics will air in 3D this Summer on BBC One. A range of events including the much-anticipated men's 100m final will be aired via broadcasters like Sky 3D when the competitions commence later in the year, and the BBC's event director Peter Mosey has assured viewers that the events chosen for live conversion into 3D format will represent the "pinnacles of the Games". The 3D version of these events will air on BBC HD so as not to lose any of the visual fidelity of the BBC's programming in the conversion, a good move, I'd wager. Whether the conversion will actually do the viewing ratings any real improvement is beyond me and certainly remains to be seen, but what with the current cynicism surrounding the format (something Star Wars Episode I sadly couldn't alleviate earlier this week bar a couple of grin-inducing shots) the BBC most certainly have a challenge on their hands if they want to convince us to put glasses on just for this. The London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony airs on July 27th, and the Games will then run from that day until August 12th.
