Will this new comedy from the stars of Inbetweeners fare better in a full series format than its average pilot?
I'll be the first to say that I'm surprised to hear that Chickens has been given the go-ahead for a full opening season of episodes- the pilot was a dull and lifeless affair at times, certainly not a piece of television that I would say needed to continue on with a brand new series. And yet, here we are- moved over from Channel 4 to Sky1, the programme will shoot six episodes of fun World War One comedy romps starring The Inbetweeners' Simon Bird and Joe Thomas. No doubt we'll get more than a few parodic takes on the events of the Great War and the hilarities and romances that brewed in the domestic areas of Britain left mostly unaffected by the conflict. Granted, that's hardly the most exciting premise for a show, but perhaps if the writers can strike more of the right notes in Series One than they did in the pilot, there's hope for this to become a fully-fledged comedy. Chickens begins airing in Summer 2013.
