Hit comedian joins the biggest ensemble cast in fantasy history...
If The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey isn't one of your Most Anticipated films of the year, I'll be pretty surprised, seeing as the Lord of the Rings prequel is looking very impressive based on its first teaser trailer. Now, we can add another big celebrity name to the already huge cast list for the two-part adaptation of Tolkien's classic prelude piece- we've got Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, James Nesbitt, Sylvester McCoy, Stephen Fry, Hugo Weaving, Benedict Cumberbatch, Christopher Lee and Cate Blanchett all on board for starters- in the form of the brilliant Scottish comedian Billy Connolly. Famed for his stand-up work, Connolly will portray Dain II Ironfoot, cousin to dwarf Thorin Oakenshield (Armitage) and unwitting accomplice to Bilbo's (Freeman's) quest to save the gold of his cousin's league of warriors. Adding this big name to the increasingly impressive roster is a big move on Peter Jackson's part, especially considering most of the movies are probably already shot (don't expect Ironfoot to appear until 2013's finale There And Back Again), but it's testament to the sheer confidence Jackson has in his production, and why I'm so damn excited for the December release dates. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey journeys to your local cinemas on December 13th.
