We might not all have raved about X-Men Origins: Wolverine when it released back in 2009, but I think it's fair to say that last year's brilliant First Class convinced most of us that the comic-book adaptation franchise has plenty of life left in it. With that in mind, it's good to see not just a sequel to the latter in the works (set to be directed by Matthew Vaughn and released in 2014) but also a spiritual successor to the former on its way too. The Wolverine will take place after the events of Origins, focusing on Wolverine's adventures in Japan as the clawed mutant fights demonic forces and ventures closer to discovering the truth behind his identity and the man who created him. If Hugh Jackson and co can pull this one off, it'll be a good sign for the more 'modern' incarnations of the series, but we do have to take into account the origins stories' track record so far, so hastily place your radar on this one...The Wolverine debuts July 26th, 2013.
