Assassin's Creed III Announced

The liberation of (America?) has begun...
If you've been following the Assassin's Creed games, you'll know that developer Ubisoft Montreal has been using an annual release schedule for the series since the release of ACII back in 2009. As a result, since then we've had Brotherhood (10/10), a fantastic update with an interesting gameworld of Rome and tons of variation thanks to its assassin team mechanic, and Revelations (9/10), an impressive if predictable resolution to Ezio's trilogy with entertaining setpieces akin to Uncharted. Now, Ubisoft have confirmed via an investors' call that a new entry in the franchise, dubbed Assassin's Creed III, will ship on October 30th. The use of a numeral in the game's title rather than a sub-title should hopefully give an indication that more effort has been focused on making this sequel feel like a fully fledged update to all of the series mechanics rather than having the spin-off/expansion feel that some fans sensed with Brotherhood and Revelations. I'm sure we can expect an entirely new Assassin, a new world and timeline, innovative new game mechanics and big leaps for modern-day protagonist Desmond's story, and Ubisoft are thinking the same, promising "the true next generation of the Assassin's Creed franchise and interactive entertainment and storytelling in general." That's quite a claim, but if the developer can match it, then perhaps we will really be heading towards the next generation of consoles, quite literally if reports of ACIII coming to the Nintendo WiiU are true. Rumour has it the game will take place in the American Revolution, so make of that what you will, and expect the first screens from Assassin's Creed III, as well as a full press release covering plot and new gameplay innovations, in the next few days...
