In a land of myth and a time of magic, the destiny of a young warlock rested with a great team now in pre-production for the final season!
Fans of the BBC television fantasy drama Merlin were left with a major cliffhanger at the end of the fourth season last Autumn, as King Arthur and Guinneviere were wed, while the evil Morgana was lifted from the dead by a recently-born baby dragon. Co-creators Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps had some good news for their viewers at the recent SFX weekender, though- the fifth and supposedly final season of the show has now entered pre-production. "We're currently in full-scale pre-production for season five, which will be with you in the Autumn" said Capps, "We're locked in a room with all the writers working out how we're going to do the next thirteen episodes. We've got some great ideas and some great twists and turns." It's exciting news to be sure, and things will get especially interested if this does become the climactic run for Merlin, as the writers attempt to deal with elements of the Arthurian lore such as Merlin's revealing himself to Arthur as a wizard, and the death of the King himself at the hands of Mordred some years later. I would say that the show may be starting to run its course a little in terms of new ideas judging by the lacklustre Series Four finale, so better to end it with another strong set of episodes and what will hopefully be the show's first (and last) properly executed climax. How the series' scheduling will be organised in the Autumn months what with around seven episodes of Doctor Who Series Seven set to air at the same time remains to be seen, but there's no doubt that this is something for the fanbase to be very excited about indeed!
