Drivers, Decepticons and Dinobots, oh my! Michael Bay is back, so cover your ears...
Paramount Pictures have today unveiled the first teaser trailer for their Summer action blockbuster Transformers: Age of Extinction. The fourth instalment in the CGI-infused live-action franchise is directed by regular helm Michael Bay, an attribute which should already give any seasoned viewers a fair idea of what to expect in terms of its tone and the frequency of implementation of cinematic devices such as explosions, slow-mo and the like.
Indeed, Age's première at the Superbowl XLVIII live event did nothing to diminish our preconceptions of the series in question, instead emphasising those superficial elements which Bay knows and does best. Credit to the man, he'll stick to his guns regardless of the critical backlash that will near-inevitably spawn as a result of the lingering sense of deja vu in his third not-so-transformative sequel, yet what remains to be seen is whether franchise fatigue will have set in for the mainstream audience and whether that will subsequently prompt a lower final box office gross figure for the film overall. If 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Moon is anything to go by, however, then Bay has little to worry about, since the series' third chapter now ranks up as the sixth highest-grossing movie of all-time. It's funny how the industry works sometimes, isn't it?
Transformers: Age of Extinction mobilizes in cinemas worldwide on June 27th.
